The Gyuto Vajrayana Center is honored that His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama has accepted our invitation to host him in the Bay Area once again. On October 12th, His Holiness will give a teaching entitled Eight Verses of Training the Mind: Awakening the Heart of Compassion.
Location: The San Jose Convention Center Date & Time: October 12th, 2010, 2:00 - 3:30 p.m. Tickets: more information
Written by 11th-century master Langri Tangpa, Eight Verses of Training the Mind is a classic text in the genre of lojong, or mind training. Lojong focuses on methods for thought transformation such as cultivating compassion, developing appropriate regard for self and others, and turning obstacles into opportunities for positive change. Reading the Eight Verses of Training the Mind is part of His Holiness' regular practice, and he describes it as one of his main sources of inspiration.

Since its founding in 2000 by Venerable Thupten Donyo, the Gyuto Vajrayana Center has provided the teachings of the Buddha and the Tibetan Buddhism practices at their beautiful Center and monastery located in San Jose, California.
To preserve the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, the Center invites highly qualified teachers to the San Francisco Bay Area and provides teachings on Sutra and Tantra. In 2007, the Center had the great honor of hosting His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama in the San Francisco Bay Area. In addition to teachings, the Center organizes initiations, empowerments, prayer ceremonies, funeral services, house blessings and purifications to the Tibetan Buddhist community in Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area. We reach out not only to the different schools of Tibetan Buddhism but to Buddhist practitioners of every nationality as well. We also host non-sectarian activities for students of local universities and Boy Scout troops. In short, our goal is to reach out to the Silicon Valley and San Francisco Bay Area communities in need. |

The venerable monks at the Gyuto Center need your support to build a monastery. As a result of the successful outreach efforts of the Gyuto monks, the Gyuto Center plans to build a permanent monastery in the San Francisco Bay Area. The Center has outgrown its current location and it has become more and more challenging to accommodate the growing number of students and interested members of the community. There is a great need for additional rooms for visiting teachers and monks, retreat facilities, student housing, dining facilities and parking areas. The Gyuto monks hope to build a monastery that will accommodate all their current activities and needs as well as a monastery that will support expanded activities in the future.
