I was born in Fremont, Ohio August 28, 1936 the eldest son of a machinist and a mother who was a full time mom. I am a year younger than His Holiness the Dalai Lama and not nearly as intelligent. I remember always being interested in philosophical and spiritual questions. I was raised a Christian but drove my pastor/ministers a little crazy with my insistent questions. In college I discovered Taoism and practiced meditation without much consistency until I came to California (mid-1970's) and began serious practice with various teachers in San Francisco Bay area. I have taught health and fitness exercises to Senior citizens My oldest pupil was 92 and youngest was 85. I have taught Tai Chi and other specific oriental health exercises at Adult Education centers, retirement communities, and privately. I have taught at National University and hold two California Adult Education certificates. For the most part my working life has been in the field of Social Services. I have a Bachelors degree in sociology, a Masters in Public Administration and a Ph.D in alternative health care. My last 21 years were in the field of Aging and Long Term Care. Since retirement in 2000, my meditation practice has been daily and consistent, under the guidance of specific Bon/Black sect Buddhist, Tibetan Dzogchen Lineage Holders, a former monk and one of the Dalai Lamas translators. I have taught meditation to adults in various settings and have been well received. My philosophy is to benefit others as well as myself. I can teach with confidence shamatha as it relates to The Great Perfection, the four applications of Mindfulness and other specific techniques. My teaching technique is to teach at the level of the student using their life experience as a reference when giving meditation instruction.
